Incandescent bulbs of the era varied constantly in shape and size, making glare control unreliable. Henningsen's answer was a three-shade system - a precisely calculated arrangement in which each shade redirects light downward and laterally, illuminating the fixture itself while ensuring no direct view of the source. The result is a pendant that produces soft, rich, enveloping light with no glare whatsoever.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe 320 Opal edition takes that same principle and adds a second quality: the slightly translucent, glossy acrylic shades allow light to pass through them as well as reflect off them. You get the controlled, downward-directed light the PH 5 is known for, alongside a softer diffused glow that spreads into the room.
